United Health Care Covers the Cost of Hairline Illusions Medical Wig "Cranial Prosthesis"

If given the choice, no one would want to lose hair due to medical reasons. Hair loss can be a crisis that's hard for many to take. The right wig can make all the difference in the world – boosting self-esteem, even helping the healing process for chemotherapy patients.

 Living with Alopecia can be very stressful as well. Feelings towards baldness have been devastatingly negative as most view hair loss as a sign of weakness. Most Alopecia patients are not frail. Filing Medical Insurance Steps:
Contact your medical insurance provider and ask if cranial/scalp prosthesis is covered under your plan.
The following are popular cranial/scalp prosthesis HCPCS codes to mention to your medical insurance provider. Ask if they cover any of the following codes for prosthesis. Sometimes one will cover your prosthesis and/or services like maintenance repairs.

  2. D5911
  3. D5960
  4. L9900
  5. L5000
Request that your physician write a "prescription" for a "full cranial prosthesis" (not a regular or lace wig) and a letter explaining hair loss and its effects. That it isn't just for cosmetic reasons but for emotional well-being as well. Also, include the insurance code on prescription accepted by your provider (see above HCPCS codes).
